I have been a serving governor at All Hallows since 2009. My daughter attended the school and I live in the community. I am a co-opted governor and currently am joint Chair. I am also responsible for Safeguarding, HT appraisal, I sit on the Finance Committee and am the Wellbeing Governor. I am also part of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion working party and oversee a couple of curriculum areas including Relationships, Sex and Health Education and Modern Foreign Languages.
I became a governor because I felt I had something to give, having worked in education my entire career. I didn’t quite know what I was getting into when I first joined the governing body and I have seen many changes over the years. It didn’t feel right to leave when my own child moved up to secondary school, and I’m still here even though she’s now about to leave sixth form! I believe that education is not just about academic success and I have remained a governor at All Hallows all these years because I know that everyone in our school community also believes that healthy, happy children are more likely to achieve their full potential. I want to continue to strive to make All Hallows a place where everyone thrives, feels safe, included and has a strong sense of belonging. As there’s always a new challenge to face, it still feels like there’s a lot of work to be done. I am as committed now as I was when my own child attended here, and fortunately the team of staff and governors I work alongside are equally committed.
These days I don’t get into school to see the children as often as I would like, but I try to support behind the scenes as much as possible. I work for the local authority and my team supports schools across Nottinghamshire with the health, well-being and safeguarding agendas so I feel well-placed to offer advice and support, and challenge when necessary. I have always had a keen interest in equity and inclusion and in recent years have developed my interests in both physical and mental health. Alongside my day job, I am a practising reflexologist which is where some of my passion for health and well-being comes from. I try to stay healthy in body and mind and I try to live my values on a daily basis. I am friendly and approachable and always interested in other people’s ideas and experiences. If you do see me around in school or out in the community, please do say hello and introduce yourself- I would love to meet you.
