Welcome to Class Newstead

Your teachers in Class Newstead are Mrs Radford and Mrs Graham.

Please remember to bring your water bottle to school every day. 

 

 P.E.is on Wednesday afternoon. Come to school in your P.E. kit on Wednesday.

    

Forest School is on a Monday. Please can your child bring wellies and waterproofs to school on this day. 

Look at our fantastic kangaroo pockets! The children work hard to keep their kangaroo in their pocket by following the five points of the star.

English

Our focus this half term is writing instructions, using bossy verbs and positional language.

We will then move back to story writing. 

 We will continue to send home Target words linked to the phonics patterns your child has been learning each week. Please can you help your child to learn these words in preparation for a test the following Thursday. 

Please continue to hear your child read at least three times a week so they can get their library card stamped. When their bronze card is full they will be able to enter it into a prize draw.

Maths

This half term we will be focusing on counting in patterns of 2's, 5's and 10's.  We will make equal groups, add equal groups and make arrays. We will look at doubles.  The Instant Recall Facts for this half term are to learn doubles and half of a number within 20. We will move onto division, making equal groups and sharing equal groups. We will then move on to  Fractions, finding a half of a shape, object and quantity and finding a quarter of a shape, object and quantity.

 

  

 

Topic

For the remainder of this half term our topic is "Food." 

Our focus will be on Design Technology, using cutting skills to make sandwiches and designing a healthy meal.  Geography, finding out where different foods come from around the world. 

 

 

 

 

Science

Through the school year we will be observing seasonal changes focusing on two trees in our school grounds - a deciduous tree and an evergreen tree. 

 

 

 

Our topic focus this half term is PLANTS. 

We will name and identify a variety of common plants, including garden plants, wild plants and trees. We will also identify and name a variety of common edible plants.

Our theme for this half term is " Symbols in religious worship and practice."

The children will be introduced to some important Christian symbols and the main features inside a Christian church. We will focus on the symbols and features in All Hallows Church. The children will be introduced to some important Jewish symbols and the main features inside a Jewish synagogue. We will focus on the symbols and features in the Liberal Synagogue in Sherwood.
